چکیده
Abstract: Aim To test the hypothesis that zooplankton changes structure of phytoplankton in tropical reservoirs by reducing biomass algal species susceptible to herbivory. Methods We experimentally evaluated species-specific responses within eutrophic with different community northeastern Brazil. Water samples were collected from subsurface coastal regions Apipucos and Mundaú January/2012 November/2014, respectively, transported laboratory. The experiments performed Erlenmeyer flasks (1 liter) filled water sample sites maintained for five days laboratory conditions. Two treatments (1) presence native (2) without zooplankton. Results Zooplankton proved be an important factor, modifying community, especially reservoir. In this reservoir, we observed a significant reduction diatom Cyclotella meneghiniana, chlorophyte Chlamydomonas sp., increase Raphidiopsis raciborskii. C. meneghiniana R. raciborskii, while cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa increased their biomasses Conclusions These results show importance microalgae phytoplankton-zooplankton interactions food webs environments, as well support role fostering cyanobacterial growth maintain blooms.

Can microcystins affect zooplankton structure community in tropical eutrophic reservoirs?
The aim of our study was to assess whether cyanotoxins (microcystins) can affect the composition of the zooplankton community, leading to domination of microzooplankton forms (protozoans and rotifers). Temporal variations in concentrations of microcystins and zooplankton biomass were analyzed in three eutrophic reservoirs in the semi-arid northeast region of Brazil. The concentration of microcy...
متن کاملZooplankton assemblages in eutrophic reservoirs of the Brazilian semi-arid.
Species composition, density, and temporal dynamics of zooplankton were studied in six reservoirs in a semi-arid region in tropical northeastern Brazil (Rio Grande do Norte state). All the reservoirs are highly eutrophic, with high contents of total nitrogen (minimum of 1200 µg.L(-1)) and total phosphorus (minimum of 10 µg.L(-1)), and extremely high algal biomass was registered (surpassing 20 µ...
متن کاملThe Impact of Zooplankton Grazing on Phytoplankton Species Composition and Biomass in Lake Champlain (USA-Canada)
Rates of grazing on phytoplankton by macrozooplankton (cladocerans and copepods > 220 μm in length) and microzooplankton (animals < 220 μm, mostly rotifers and nauplii) were determined for Lake Champlain on three occasions using a modified version of the Lehman-Sandgren method. Gradients in grazer density were created in fertilized cubitainers incubated in situ, and clearance rates on specific ...
متن کاملMathematical Modelling of Migrated Phytoplankton Species in an Infected and Toxin Producing Phytoplankton-Zooplankton System
In this paper the dynamical behaviour of toxin producing phytoplankton and zooplankton system is investigated. The toxin producing phytoplankton are divided into two groups: susceptible phytoplankton and infected phytoplankton. Conditions of local stability of various equilibrium points are derived. Further it is observed that the range of toxin liberation parameter increases for the coexistenc...
متن کاملPlant Species Diversity Response to Animal Grazing Intensity in Semi-Steppe Rangelands
Knowledge of the relationships between biotic components of rangeland ecosystem i.e. herbivores and plants is important for range managers. In order to study herbivorse grazing intensity on plant species diversity, an experiment was conductef using fuor grazing treatments in darrehshar rangelands, Ilam province in 2015. Plant species data were taken based on a randomized-systematic sampling met...
